202123oct7:30 pmItalian Renaissance Masters

Event Details

Scintillating choral treasures from the time of Botticelli and Caravaggio, including works by Victoria and Palestrina.

The Renaissance Choir will perform heavenly sacred works, earthly madrigals and drinking songs from Renaissance Italy.

It’s our belief that 15th – 17th century Europe was the birthplace of the most beautiful music ever written. This artistic flowering took place across the whole of Europe: in music, painting, sculpture and literature. In our series of ‘Renaissance Masters’ concerts we transport our audiences back in time, displaying the greatest music and paintings of the Renaissance.

Our concert includes Victoria’s final work and masterpiece, Officium Defunctorum and other sacred pieces. By contrast we will also create a vibrant Italian street scene, including drinking songs, madrigals, and singers turning into animals!

The concert will also feature the distinguished guitarist, Zoe Barnett. Hugely popular at our Spanish concerts in 2019, Zoe will offer a palate cleanser to the rich choral polyphony.

A full-colour programme illustrated with artworks by Michaelangelo, Caravaggio, Botticelli and others is available for purchase at the time of booking.

Read a preview of this programme, and a review.

Adults – £13, under 25s – £2. Full-colour programme £2. Available online.
Admission is also possible on the door – please bring the correct amount in cash!

We will be complying with the latest Government guidance. We will be taking measures to reduce the risk of Covid infection at this concert by providing good ventilation and requiring the audience to wear masks.
The singers will wear masks when they are not singing.
