This diverse and evocative selection of works explores themes of nature, reflection, and spirituality, traversing the centuries from the Renaissance through the Romantic period to contemporary compositions. Each piece offers its own unique sound world, capturing the beauty and complexity of both the human voice and the autumn season.

Much of the programme comes from the late romantic period – a time when soundscapes were a little like Monet’s “Lily” paintings. Gentle and evocative music will bring to mind walks through copper and russet-coloured leaves on woodland floors, or recall the quieter dawn period, when the birdsong of spring and summer is fading into distant memory.

We are very fortunate to have the Portuguese composer Duarte Lôbo’s Requiem because of the destruction of huge swathes of Portugal in 1755. Much of the country was flattened in the earthquake, firestorms raged and a devastating tsunami followed.

We won’t promise you an earthquake – just the opposite in fact with a programme of soothing beauty.
